GREAT WEEK!

This has been a great week of running.  I logged in a total of 22.7 miles while following the Jack Daniels training plan.  I have noticed that my speed is starting to increase again.  The only bad part about this week is that I have been spending all of my time on the treadmill.  It's been cold and snowy here in Iowa and I don't like to run on the sidewalks after the first snow because people so lazy and don't understand how to use a shovel :).  That is one of my biggest pet-peeves.

Thanks,

Everything is fine

I went to the Dr. yesterday and everything is fine!  I was having some issues with pain in my right lower leg and we came to the conclusion that I have a calf sprain.  I was so relieved I didn't have another stress fracture.  So, after hearing the good news I went to the gym and did a tempo run on the treadmill.   My run started off slow running with caution then I started to increase my speed and everything felt fine. I'm so glad everything is fine.

Talk to you later.

It's been awhile

It's been awhile since I posted on this forum.  I really don't know how to use blogger or that much about blogging.  I really enjoy subscribing to all the different running blogs on this site and keeping up with everyones progress.  What got me started thinking about using blogger is Steve Runner.  I take his podcasts with me on all of my runs.  Ok... lets get back to my post.  I'm still running trying to back into the swing of things.  I was out with some injuries this year and that caused a change in my running practices.  I switched to a mid-foot style of landing and started using minimal style shoes (including the Virbum Five Fingers).  I started getting some pain in my right lower leg since the switch in running style.  So, I decided to take a couple of days off and see the doctor.  I hope everything is going to be ok and I can continue to keep running as planned.

Since I came back to running after my second stress fracture I am developing my base training using the Jack Daniels Running Formula.  I have been developing my base with the Red Formula section on the book.  My first month went very well.  I have been slacking with the second month due to the pain in my leg.  I have been taking it easy with 30 minute runs finishing with 6 strides.

Well I will post again very soon.

Keep running and someday we can meet at the finish line........

Got a little speed play in today

I finally got to enjoy a little speed play today.  I was scheduled to run 6 strides on my evening run.  The strides felt good.  It's always feels nice to add a little challenge to my runs.  I have been having a hard time adjusting to the recovery workouts because of their slow paces.  I have slowed down on my runs and I'm not hitting my old paces.  I know eventually I will be back to my old pace in no time.

I had a slow 25 minute run this evening. Towards the end of my run my left shin started to hurt. I think I am over doing my running routine. I know I need to take it slow while in this stage of recovery. I am moving to four days a week now with the average time being 25 minutes. I do find it hard to land mid foot due to the pain I have in my calves. I think I will take a couple days off for some much needed rest. I will post again in a couple days to update my status.

I ran the past couple of days.  Sunday 10/10 I had a really hard time running my 25 minute recovery run.  I felt really sluggish.  I did go up to one of the local schools and video taped myself running to watch my forum with the new mid-foot technique I've been trying to perfect.  I am still noticing that my calves are sore.  Hopefully my body will get use to this technique very soon.  I also ran today 10/11.  I did one of my best miles since my injury (7:40) according to my Garmin.  I ran the whole 25 minutes.  I'm slowly getting there.  I will hopefully be doing some races in 2011.

Strength Training For Runners | Special Report | BuiltLean.com

I found this while googling workout routines for runners. I tried this routine today and found it to be a great workout. I would recommend everyone to try this routine.

Back to the roads of sorts.....

I finally made it back to pavement running.  I ran around Des Moines, IA Gray's Lake park today!  I felt so good to get off the treadmill.  I had a great 25 minute run.  I logged just over 3 miles according to my Garmin.  My legs felt great and my blister on my right foot did not act-up at all.  I haven't felt this good in a long time.  I plan on getting back to Gray's Lake on Friday.  Thanks for listening :)

I'm just about to start my fourth week in my recovery training program.  I ran for 20 minutes, walked 2 minutes, and finished with a ten minute run.  I am still running on the treadmill and really miss running on the roads.  During this recovery training session I am focusing on a mid-foot landing.  I have always been a heel striker and this new foot landing has caused a really nasty blood blister on my right foot.  I notice with my pronation I push off through inner portion of my foot.  I'll talk more about that later.  For my future plans I plan on training with the Jack Daniels training system to rebuild my base training.   I will keep a journal of my progress through base training.

Update on recovery training

I had a decent run this evening.  I am still in my recovery stage of training.  I ran on the treadmill doing a 12:00 minute pace (depressing).  I'm just kidding it fells so good to get back to running.  My earlier post stated the I have been out with a stress fracture.  I have had a lot of stress this year with running.  I started off the new year with a stress fracture in my right tibia.  After that healed, I trained for the Des Moines, IA Dam-to-Dam.  This was a great 20K race.  I did the race in 1:34:18.  I was so proud of myself.  This was the longest run I have ever completed.  After the Dam-to-Dam I started marathon training.  I was doing well with my marathon training getting excited about my first ever marathon and guess what...... another stress fracture.  This one was on my right fibula.

Thanks for listening,

The pain of running

I was running on the treadmill this evening.  I am recovering from a stress fracture and starting the third week of a seven week recovery/return to running program.  Today I experienced some pain in my left foot and calf.  I did some leg squats and calf extensions yesterday at the gym.  While working my calves I did experience a cramp in my calf.  I'm hoping with some rest I'll be back for my normal recovery run program.
